American Flatbread, Burlington, VT

American Flatbread was just a hop, skip and a jump away from Vermont Pub & Brewery so we decided to stop in for a few before calling it a night. The place was just as packed but we managed to find some standing room off to the side. We lucked out again by standing by a party that was ready to leave. A group that was tired of waiting for a table and decided to just grab a slice nearby instead.

The brewpub attached to the restaurant is called Zero Gravity and the beers brewed there were great. In addition, they had a large selection of bottles and beers brewed elsewhere. They even had a Monk's Cafe beer that I thought was only brewed for Monk's Cafe in Philly.

After a few, we decided to call it a night, but had to try a pizza before we left. I read great reviews of this place and was tempted by all the pizzas we spotted around us. So, we brought a small pie back with us to the hotel.

We ordered the New Vermont Sausage pie which was described on the menu as "Duclos & Thompson farm fresh pork in our homemade nitrate-free maple-fennel sausage baked with sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions, mushrooms, cheeses & herbs". Sounded good. But in reality, it was quite bad. It was bland for a pie that has so many toppings on it. The sundried tomatoes didn't really work with it. Maybe it would've been better with sauce. But, for me, the most important part of the pizza, the crust, was too bready. No crisp at all.. just chew, chew, chew. But maybe that's why they call it a flatbread pizza.
