Jason had read many favorable reviews of Vetri and made reservations for us on Friday when the only option was to order the chef's grand tasting menu.We should've known what we were going to be in for when we were served not one, not two, but five canapes. I've never seen anything like it.
For the first course, we had the Seared Squid with Red Beet Salad and the Cotechino with Potatoes. Out of the two, the Cotechino was the winner. The squid was nice and tender, but Jason and I are not big fans of beets.

Next came the Sweet Onion Crepe and the Ricotta Souffle with Marinated Egg Yolk and Porcini. The sweet onion crepe reminded us of a french onion soup and was indeed sweet and yummy. But even yummier was the ricotta souffle. Hands-down the best dish of the night.

Two plates of Spinach Gnocchi came out. One for each of us. They were soft and they melted in your mouth. So good, but so filling that we probably would've been better off if this was a dish that was shared. To top it off, they brought us out a plate of Stuffed Tagliatelle with Sweet Onions and Parmesan to share while we were working on the gnocchi.

Jason and I were pretty full at this point but we still had two more courses to go. Next came the mains. We shared the Poached John Dory with Local Vegetables and the Baby Goat with Soft Polenta. Both were really good but we were so full we struggled to swallow each bite.

And of course, no matter how full you are, there's always room for dessert. We were both served a gelato. Then came the "real" stuff... the Chocolate Polenta Souffle and the Ricotta Dumplings with Persimmon Sauce.

Oh and don't forget the petit fours at the end. In this case it was five. (Of course!)

I got full just from writing this.
Despite food overload, I really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was outstanding. The ricotta souffle was out of this world. But what impressed me most was the free flowing wine. This is the only restaurant where they refilled your wine glass as soon as it neared empty. Completely unheard of when you're doing a wine pairing.
